How
was the The Junk Gypsy Company born?
It all began
back in 1998 . . . .
After graduating from
Texas A&M University and declining an offer to law
school, Amie Sikes began an 8-5 job in
Austin sporting business suits and
matching pumps. Although she found the fast-paced political world intriguing,
she quickly grew tired of endless traffic, runners in her stockings, and water
cooler gossip. She longed to let her hair down and release the inner
gypsy.
She decided
to follow her heart and go in search of her wildest dreams… she loaded her car,
bid her co-workers farewell and cruised out of the corporate world on a wing and
a prayer. As she drove north, she knew that the city never looked as good as it
did at that moment … in her rearview mirror.
Jolie, Amie’s
younger sister, had also tasted the big-city life and knew the conventional 8-5
gig just didn’t fit her rambunctious style. She finished her Master’s degree
from Texas A&M but could hear the wild blue yonder calling her name. She
answered the call and blew out of the metropolitan world in search of greener
pastures and open roads.
Janie, Amie and
Jolie’s mom, had helped her husband, Phillip, open and run the family
restaurants since 1987. Her free spirit and creative soul taught the girls to
dream big and to love life. Her never-say-die passion for flea markets and GREAT
junk was contagious.

Boundless
determination and big-time dreams brought Amie, Janie, and Jolie together as
The Junk Gypsy Co. and the rest is
history!
So that is
how it all began…The Junk Gypsy Co. started with a little bit
of faith and a whole lot of heart and soul. The girls traveled like gypsies
collecting roadside treasures and tattered grandeur, meeting kindred spirits and
storybook characters along the way.
Their path
was paved with starry visions and dreamy discoveries that made their journey all
the better. Through hard work, late nights, and long roads the mother-daughter
team was able to develop The Junk Gypsy Company into a thriving
business.
So, dare to
dream and dream to live and join us on our magic carpet ride… but hold on
tight…it gets a little wild!
